Chittagong Vikings sealed first victory in their 2nd match of the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) beating Sylhet Super Stars in a nerve-shattering match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.Chittagong Vikings conceded a two-wicket defeat to Rangpur Riders in the last ball thriller in the opening match on Sunday.Chasing 181 runs to win the match, Sylhet Super Stars were very unfortunate to finish on 179 for 6 in 20 overs, despite Bangladesh test captain Mushfiqur Rahim was in the crease with an unbeaten 50 runs.
Dilshan Munaweera hammered 64 runs off 30 balls featuring 13 fours and one six before he was caught by Jeevan Mendis off a Saeed Ajmal delivery at 76 for 2 in 7.4 overs.Sylhet Super Stars’ opening pair Dilshan Munaweera and Junaid Siddique made a decent start contributing 66 runs in 6.2 overs before Junaid (5 off 13) was bowled out by Shafiul Islam.Icon player Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 50 runs off 34 balls hitting three fours and two sixes to carry the match to a close end.Apart from individual score, Mushfiq pairing with Nurul Hasan contributed 55 runs in 6.2 overs in the 4th wicket stand to carry the team total to 131 for 4 in 14.2 overs before Nurul Hasan was trapped lbw by Shafiul Islam scoring 32 off 22 balls with three fours and one six.Nazmul Hossain Milon added 9 runs playing 8 balls with one four while there were no mentionable scorers for Sylhet SS.Shafiul Islam was adjudged man of the match grabbing three wickets for 25 runs in four overs while Saeed Ajmal took two wickets for 35 runs in four overs.

Earlier, sent in to bat first in the day’s 1st match, Ctg Vikings scored 180 runs for 5 in 20 overs spurred by skipper Tamim Iqbal’s 69 and number three batsman Yasir Ali’s 63 runs.Apart from their individual scores, Tamim-Yasir paired for 79 runs in 10.5 overs in the 2nd wicket stand to carry the team total to a decent 93 for 2 in 12.2 overs from 14/1 in 1.3 overs.Opener cum skipper Tamim’s 69 runs came off 46 balls involving six fours and four sixes before he was out by a simple catch by Mohammad Shahid off an Ajantha Mendis delivery.Yasir fell victim of run out by Nazmul-Mushfiq combination in the tail end of the match scoring 63 off 52 balls with one four and four sixes.Jeevan Mendis scored 20 runs off 11 balls with two sixes while Ziaur Rahman added unbeaten 15 off 7 balls with one four and one six.Ctg Vikings lost the first wicket very early as their Lankan player Tillakaratne Dilshan was caught by Mominul Haque off a Subashis Roy delivery for a duck at team’s 14/1 in 1.3 overs.Tamim continued paring with Yasir Ali in the 2nd wicket and carried the team total to a decent 93 runs for 2 in 12.2 overs.After Tamim, number four Anamul Haque (3 off 4b) was trapped lbw by Dilshan Munaweera at 108 for 3 in 14 overs.Yasir continued his composure pairing with Jeevan Mendis in the 4th wicket stand, but Jeevan Mendis followed Anamul soon as he was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mohammad Shahid at team’s 138/4 in 17.1 overs.Subashis Roy, Ajantha Mendis, Mohammad Shahid and Nazmul Islam took one wicket each for 22, 27, 27 and 40 runs respectively in 4, 3, 4 and 4 overs.
