Barisal Bulls started Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) campaign with a 13-run victory against Rangpur Riders at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday. Replying to Barisal Bulls’ 155 runs in the 4th BPL Twenty20 match on the day, Rangpur Riders finished for 142/10 in 20 overs.Mohammad Mithun scored highest 55 runs off 32 balls involving five fours and two sixes and was caught by Seekkuge Prasanna off a Mohammad Sami bowling at 136 for 6 in 18.4 overs.Rangpur Riders lost their four tail-end wickets — Darren Sammy, Al-Amin, Mukter Ali and Abu Jayed — only for six runs (from 136 to 142 runs) in 1.2 overs.Mithun pairing with Thisara Perera contributed a 68 runs in 6.3 overs in the 5th wicket stand to carry the team total to 134 for 5 in 18.1 overs before Thisara Perera was feel victim of run out scoring 17 runs off 18 balls with two fours. Mithun-Perera paired after Misbah-ul-Haq’s departure at team’s 66 for 4 in 11.4 overs. Opener Lendl Simmons, numbers four batsman Misbah-ul-Haq (19 off 22b; 1×4) and Soumya Sarkar (17 off 4b) were the other scorers for Rangpur Riders.Mohammad Sami took the first wicket Soumya Sarkar was caught by keeper Brendan Taylor at 19/1 2.2 overs; skipper Shakib Al Hasan was caught by Seekkuge Prasanna off a Kevon Cooper bowling to follow Soumya at 40/2 in 5.4 overs.Lendl Simmons was caught by Mohammad Sami off a Seekkuge Prasanna bowling at 46/3 in 8.1 overs while Misbah-ul-Haq was caught by Brendan Taylor off a Kevon Cooper at 66 for 4 in 11.4 overs. Kevon Cooper grabbed 5 wickets for economic 15 runs in 4 overs and was adjudged man of the match. Mohammad Sami took 2 wickets for 35 runs while Seekkuge Prasanna took one wicket for 24 runs, both bowled 4 overs each.
Sent in to bat first in the match, Barisal scored a moderate score of 155 for 9 in 20 overs riding on the skipper Mahmudullah’s knocked of 51 runs off 43 balls with five fours and one six.Nadif Chowdhury scored 30 off 31 balls with one four and one six while Kevon Cooper who was fell victim of run out at 153/9 in 19.5 overs, scored a 21 off 13-ball with two fours and one six to be the other notable scorers for B Bulls.Barisal Bulls faced sever jolt early losing their three top order batsmen – – Rony Talukdar, Shahriar Nafees and Brendan Taylor – – for 4 runs in 2.1 overs. The top trios were out for one run each. Sabbir Rahman was trapped lbe by Thisara Perera to follow the fellow trio scoring 11 off 8 with two fours at team’s 15 for 4 in 3.6 overs.Skipper Mahmudulla and Nadif Chowdhury tried their best to reaper the early damage pairing for an 82 runs in 11.2 overs in the 5th wicket stand.The 5th pair carried the team total to 97 for 5 in 15.2 overs before Mahmudullah was caught by Thisara Perera off a Shakib Al Hasan bowling.Similar activity of Perera-Shakib combination dismissed Nadif Chowdhury at 105 for 6 in 16 overs.
Mohammad Sami was caught by Misbah-ul-Haq off Saqlain Sajib bowling hammering a 15 off 5 balls including two fours and one six while Seekkuge Prasanna fell victim of run out adding 12 off 4 balls with one four and one six.
Taijul Islam added unbeaten 7 off 3 balls.Delivering 4 overs each, Shakib Al Hasan and Thisara Perera grabbed three wickets apiece for 23 and 29 runs respectively. Saqlain Sajib took one wicket for 37 runs also bowled 4 overs.
