Ankle injury throws Mustafizur out of action for 2 weeks

Dhaka – Bangladesh suffered a further blow before the selection of the World Cup squad as speedster Mustafizur Rahman has been sidelined for two weeks due to an injury on his left ankle.
“We went through an X-ray of his (Fiz) injured ankle. Everything is fine as per the report. But we want to go slowly and we suggested him to stay in rest for two weeks,” Debashis Chowdhury, the BCB chief physician told reporters on Thursday.

The left-arm pacer suffered the blow during a warm-up session of his Dhaka League team Shinepukur Cricket Club on Wednesday.

With a match for Shinepukur on Monday, Mustafizur had returned playing in the ongoing Dhaka League after a break of four years. He took three wickets on his return, but he now has been forced to stay away.

“Since the World Cup is not too far, we need to take precautionary measures with Mustafizur’s injury,” Debashis further said.

Mustafizur last suffered an injury while playing for Mumbai Indians in the last season of Indian Premier League. He suffered a blow on his thumb of the left leg while facing a yorker during batting.

Due to that injury, Mustafizur missed the three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan, and after that, he was also sidelined during the away Test series against the West Indies last year.UNB
