Another opposition BNP leader shot dead in SW Bangladesh

Dhaka – A local opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader was shot to death by some miscreants in Arongghata area of Khulna city on Friday night, unb news agency reported.Additional deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Sheikh Maniruzzaman Mithu said a group of armed miscreants intercepted SM Alamgir Hossain,50, industries affairs secretary of 3 no. ward unit of BNP, son of Akbar Hossain in the area, and opened fire on him around 10:30 pm, leaving him critically injured.
Another report published in a local vernacular daily said victim Alamgir Hossain was shot at his residential home in the city as he was standing at the door. The bullet hit him in the head injuring him fatally. Opposition BNP leaders falling victims to shooting by unidentified assailants has become frequent, especially in the SouthWestern districts of Jessore and Khulna and the SouthEastern districts of Laxmipur and Noakhali, according to reports published in daily newspapers.
Later he was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 11 pm.
Police could not arrest anyone as the miscreants fled the scene after firing shots.
However, the reason behind the killing could not be known immediately, Khulna Metropolitan Police said.
