Miscreants hurled petrol bombs to set a truck on fire at Kapasia on Rajshahi-Dhaka Highway under Motiher Police Station in Rajshahi around 8pm on Saturday, police said.
Fire service personnel accompanied by police rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. But the truck and all the goods in it had been burnt down.The driver and his assistant fled after the bombs were hurled and were thus not hurt. Abdur Razzaq, Officer-in-Charge of Matihar Police Station, said nearly 25 Opposition activists had set fire to a part of the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway in Kapasia bazar in support of the blockade. That led to huge
traffic congestion.As the truck loaded with plastic goods tried to turn and drive away, two petrol bombs were lobbed at it, OC Razzak added.The truck caught fire and was completely gutted by the time the police and fire services arrived.The BNP has called off the blockade from Monday but its leaders said it would continue on Sunday.Earlier, some other goods-laden trucks were burnt down in Rajshahi. -BSS, Rajshahi
