BNP on Thursday alleged that the government has arrested its senior leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain as part of its conspiracy to divert people’s attention from its misdeeds and misrule to a different direction.
“The government is spreading the net of conspiracy as it fears to face people because of its misdeeds and misrule. Khandaker Mosharraf is the victim of that conspiracy,’’ said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. The BNP leader came up with the allegation at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Accusing the ruling party leaders of indulging in widespread corruption and plundering, Rizvi said the government has arrested a senior BNP leader on false graft charges to hush up the corruption by its own people. “Mosharraf’s arrest is part of an evil effort to gag the voice against the current regime’s misrule.”
He demanded the government immediately release Mosharraf and withdraw all the ‘false’ cases filed against him.
Earlier, on Wednesday night, police from Gulshan Police Station picked up the BNP leader from his Gulshan residence around 10:25pm.,
After the arrest, Mosharraf’s son Maruf Mosharraf told UNB over phone that police told them that they held him in connection with a case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission against him.
On February 6, ACC director Nasim Anwar filed the case with Ramna Police Station on charge of siphoning off money. – UNB
