‘As if weapons procured with ruling party’s money’: BNP

BNP on Monday accused the heads of law enforcement agencies of giving free hand to their forces to use arms and ammunition “as if those have been procured with the ruling party’s money”.
“The remarks of the chiefs of law enforcement agencies suggest that the weapons of their forces have been procured with funds from Awami League. So, they think there is no need of accountability in using the arms,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Mentioning that the Rab DG on Sunday wondered as to why the arms and ammunition are left unused like toys, the BNP leader strongly condemned and protested his assertion.Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed at a programme in Khulna on Sunday said police must use firearms for security reasons, if necessary. “Police are not given arms to play ‘hadudu’, they must fire, if needed, for the security.”
Rizvi alleged the law enforcement agencies’ heads are making people understand that Bangladesh has now become an institution of barbaric torture, killing, enforced disappearances and the cruel operations of joint forces.
The BNP leader also accused the government of playing the role of a dangerous killer to continue its misrule.
He also alleged that the government which is using the state machinery against people are carrying out acts sabotage and brutal crime against humanity like hurling patrol bombs.
“We again want to clearly say that we’re committed to continuing our peaceful movement,” Rizvi added. – UNB
