Miscreants stabbed to death an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Darus Salam Police Station in the city’s Gabtali area on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as ASI Ibrahim, 40.
Police said Ibrahim was on duty at a check post set up near Parbata Cinema Hall of Gabtali in the evening.
When a suspicious vehicle was crossing the check post, the on-duty policemen signaled it to stop around 8:40pm, said Inspector (Investigation) Faruqul Alam of the police station.
However, the criminals staying inside the vehicle stabbed ASI Ibrahim indiscriminately, he said.
The ASI was taken to Suhrawardi Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
