Asia Foundation hosts map-up event for city polls Saturday

The Asia Foundation Bangladesh will host a map-up event for the upcoming city corporation elections in Dhaka, in partnership with the OpenStreetMap (OSM) in Bangladesh. Currently, there are no visual applications that maps these polling stations so that the citizenry can easily visualise the locations of their polling stations. The Asia Foundation is trying to fill this gap by hosting this ‘Map-Up’ event to collect the geo locations of the polling stations of previous elections in both Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations.
40 youth volunteers from OpenStreetMap (OSM) will be deployed on April 4 Saturday, to collect the longitude and latitude of the individual locations, along with a photo. The information will then be collated and made available to inform mapping projects such as the <www.citycorpelections.org> website.
The purpose of the event is to involve the youth of Dhaka in the electoral process and to strengthen democracy in Bangladesh using the latest technology. – Press release
