Assam CM happy with extradition treaty progress

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi expressed the hope that India-Bangladesh extradition treaty will be ratified soon as the process was moving in the right direction.“Though I haven’t being informed anything officially yet, I‘ve come to know that the extradition treaty so far is going in right direction,” the CM said on the sidelines of a seminar on northeast development and its security scenario here on Saturday.
It was organized was organized by Kolkata-based Research Centre East and North Eastern Regional Studies, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region, reports TNN.
Addressing a gathering of security experts, military, central paramilitary forces and police officers and representatives from trade and commerce bodies, Gogoi said technology and connectivity have helped in overcoming the region’s geographical isolation. He said as major insurgent groups in the state are in a peace process, a congenial atmosphere is being created for investment and development.
The chief minister said that even when insurgency was at its height the government pushed for development because the state’s progress could not wait for total peace.
Assam DGP Jayanto Choudhury said extortion, kidnapping and petty crimes are now the issues that the security forces have to deal with in the aftermath of drop in insurgent activities. (Source: UNB)
