Asst. Director of UGC, 2 others on remand for MBBS question leakae

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Sunday) placed three persons including an Assistant Director (AD) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on remand in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in connection with the leakage of question paper for admission into MBBS class.

Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty passed the order after hearing on a plea of police seeking ten days’ remand for each of the accused. Earlier, Sub-Inspector Ahad Ali who is also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced accused UGC AD Omar Siraj, Store-Keeper Rezaul Karim, 32 and university student Eshan Imtiaz Redoy, 22 to the court with a remand prayer. The IO’s prayer mentioned that the remand is necessary to interrogate the accused in police custody to find out the whereabouts of others, who were also involved with the question leakage incident.

On Friday, last, a team of RAB-4 conducted a drive and arrested the three accused from the second floor of the UGC office at Agargaon in the capital. The following day, RAB SI Alimur Kazi filed the case with the police station under Section 473 of the Penal Code and and the Public Esxamination Act.

They recovered some questions of MBBS admission test  23 answer papers, two questions of Asistant Judge Recruitment Examination 2014, Tk 2 lakh in cash, a cheque of Exim Bank for Tk4 lakh, stamp seals of different government offices, three mobile phones and a notebook from the possessions of the accused.

RAB official filed a case against the accused with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station under section of penal code 473 and also Public Examination Act. – Special Correspondent
