Atiur ‘Green governor’

World Bank vice president Rachel Kyte termed Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman ‘Greenest governor of the world in ongoing COP18 conference at Doha, Qatar. The General manager of Bangladesh Bank Governor secretariat AFM Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to journalists Friday.
Earlier on December 2, Dr Atiur Rahman was declared green governor in the ongoing climate conference at Doha in Qatar for his outstanding contribution in conducting green banking.
The Central Bank issued various guidelines on environmental risk management and green banking in 2011 to be the only central bank in the world to set an example of green banking.
The central bank has introduced a Tk 2 billion refinance line for financing solar energy, biogas and effluent treatment plants (ETPs); and banks and NBFIs can have access to this fund at only 5 percent interest rate, and they can charge up to 10 percent.
Dr Atiur, attending the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference– CoP-18 (Conference of the Parties) in Doha, took part in various sessions till Friday.
