Dhaka – Police arrested a teacher of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) early Wednesday in a case filed over sexually harassing two female students of the university.
A team from Kalabagan police station arrested Mahfuzur Rashid Ferdous, associate professor of the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), from his flat in the city’s Eskaton area at about 2:00am, said Mohammad Iqbal, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Police said Asadullah Al Sayem, brother of a victim, filed a case against the teacher with the police station on Tuesday night.
On April 30, the AUST authorities suspended the teacher.
The decision came at an emergency meeting in the face of the students’ demand.
Earlier, two complaints were lodged to the head of the Department of EEE in this regard.
Later, the department chairman informed the matter to Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr MM Shafiullah.
The meeting also decided to investigate the allegations and take further actions against the accused teacher after getting the probe report.
