Avijit murder case investigation given to Detective Branch

The case filed with Shahbagh police station over the gruesome killing of blogger Avijit Roy on Friday morning, has been transferred to Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of the Shahbagh police Sirajul Islam said the case was shifted to the DB soon after it was registered in the morning.
Prof Ajay Roy, father of the deceased and a former teacher of Dhaka University, filed the case against some unnamed people with the police station in the morning.Police and detectives were investigating the sensational killing keeping in mind that either the incident took place due to previous enmity or it was carried out by an Islamic radical group.
Avijit Roy, founder of Muktamoa blog, was hacked to death and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Thursday night.
Avijit and Rafida, an expatriate couple living in the USA, returned home a few days back as his two books were published on the occasion of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
Some sources said that Ansarallah 7 has claimed responsibility for the murder through a facebook posting.
The Ganajagaran Manch and some Dhaka University students on Friday staged demonstrat ion condemning the killing and demanding punishment of killers.
No one was arrested yet in connection with the incident till Friday night.
