Avijit’s father Prof. Ajoy Roy files murder case

A case has been filed at city’s Shahbagh police station this morning regarding the murder of writer and blogger Abhijit Roy last night.
Prof Dr Ajoy Roy, retired professor of Dhaka University physics department, and also father of the slain writer, filed the case at around 9.15am on Friday.
Sirajul Islam, Office In-charge (OC) of Shahbagh police station, told BSS that “a murder case has been filed against some unidentified miscreants and militants.”
The police official said “we are trying our best, but so far could not detect anyone involved with the murder, we are trying to unearth the motive behind the killing.”
Unidentified militants including the Jammat-e-Islami are responsible for the murder, said Abhijit Roy’s father Prof Ajoy Roy.
The government should stop such anarchy immediately, Prof Roy told the Journalists after filing the case.
Meanwhile, the students, teachers and the common people staged protest rally at the TSC area here this morning.
Writer Abhijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed came under attack at Dhaka University area while they were returning home from the Amar Ekushey book fair last night.
Abhijit, 42 , succumbed to his injuries following the attack on him with sharp weapons, at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at around 10.30pm on Thursday.
Abhijit’s wife Rafida Ahmed, 35, now also in critical condition as miscreants hit her four times with chapatti.
Abhijit-Rafida, the US expatriate couple arrived here on February 16 for participating at the book publishing ceremony.
Abhijit, now a professional engineer, was a former teacher of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bannya is a doctor. – BSS
