Awareness about food adulteration in Gaibandha

Awareness building up activity in prevention of adulteration in food
items has been continuing among the students of different academic
institutions in the district since June 25.
Advocacy unit of RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed non-government
organisation, is conducting the activity under its core programme,
office sources said.
Under this activity, documentary films are being screened in primary
schools, high schools, madrashas and colleges of the district through
multi media projectors.
On Monday, a discussion meeting organised by Raghunathpur High School
in Ballamjhar union of Sadar upazila was held here with head teacher M
Shamsul Alam in the chair.
Programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman, journalist SM
Shahiduzzaman, assistant teacher Lutfor Rahman and Abu Sayeed
addressed the meeting, among others.
The speakers in their speeches said the markets had been flooded with
formalin and carbide-mixed fruits and the dishonest traders are making
brisk business by selling the toxic fruits like mango, blackberry,
grape, apple, pineapple, litchi and date including tomato and
different varieties of fish to the customers at random.
Due to taking poison mixed fruits, vegetables and fishes, people
particularly the children are being affected with long and short-term
harmful impacts in their bodies.
In this context, they underscored the need for building social
movement against food adulteration and urged the government to take
pragmatic measures without delay to stop selling adulterated food
items by the unscrupulous traders to the innocent customers
considering the public heath.
