4 get life in Netrakona

A court here on Monday sentenced four persons to life term
imprisonment for killing a septuagenarian farmer Abdul Gani at Kapasia
village under Kendua upazila of the district in 2000.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each in default to suffer more two
years of rigorous imprisonment. The convicts were Amir Hussain, Kabir
Hussain, Haroon-or-Rashid and Jakir Hussain.
Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Hamid gave the verdict in
absentia at his crowded courtroom.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that farmer Abdul Gani was came
under attack at his own farmland by a group of villagers following
previous enmity. As a result, the elderly man was critically injured
and was admitted to nearby Atarobari Hospital in Mymensingh district.
Later, he was shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he
succumbed to his injuries.
After his death, the victim’s son Jahed Miah filed a case with Kendua
police station against nine persons including the four convicted
persons on April 20, 2000. Police, after investigation of the case,
submitted charge sheet before the court against the convicted persons
on September 18, 2000.
Later, the Judge, after examining the witnesses and evidence, found
them guilty and handed down the punishment.
