Lauding the control of acid attacks in the country by ensuring speedy trial of acid throwers, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president B Chowdhury on Friday recommended that the criminals involved in the murder of seven people in Narayanganj should be put on speedy trial. Addressing the activists of Bikalpa Swechhasebak Dhara, an affiliate of Bikalpa Dhara, at the party headquarters in the city’s Kuril area, he also voiced concern over the factor that neither the minister, whose son and son-in-law are alleged to be involved in the killing, has resigned nor the government has taken any step against the minister. B Chowdhury also demanded the government ensure the punishment of all the officials of government agencies who are alleged to be involved in the abduction and the killing of seven people. Khaleda to visit N’ganj Wednesday
BNP chairperson Khaleda will visit the district on May 14 (Wednesday) to console the family members of the seven people brutally killed after abduction recently. “Lakhs of people would have joined our rally if we’re allowed to hold it. Our chairperson will come here on Wednesday to console the family members of the seven victims although we were not given permission for her rally,” said Narayanganj district BNP president Taimur Alam Khandaker. Talking to reporters at Narayanganj Press Club, the BNP leader also said Khaleda will visit the houses of slain Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker. She will talk to the family members of five other victims and console them if she cannot visit their houses, he added. Earlier, BNP twice sought permission for holding a rally of Khaleda in front the Narayanganj City Corporation on Wednesday. But Narayanganj city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy denied them permission on security grounds. Nazrul Islam, his three associates, driver, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were killed three days after their abduction in Narayanganj on April 27. – UNB
Missing newlywed woman found dead in Joypurhat
The body of a newlywed woman was recovered from the septic tank of her husband’s village home at Adarshapara under Joypurhat municipality on Friday, 100 days after she had reportedly gone missing. The victim was identified as Subarna, 22, wife of Palash and daughter of Hannan Sheikh of Mirpur-10 in the capital. Tania Begum, victim’s elder sister, said Subarna was married off to Palash, also their cousin, a few months ago. She went missing since her husband and mother-in-law Rahima Begum took her to Joypurhat from Mirpur on January 30, Tania said. Later, Subarna’s family lodged an abduction case with Mirpur Police Station against nine people, including Palash and his mother. Following the case filing, police arrested four of the accused — Rahima, Arman Ali, Bakul and Sheuly. Palash, however, went into hiding. On the basis of information gleaned from the arrested, a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered the body of Subarna from septic tank of her husbands’ house at Adarshapara at noon today (Friday), said DMP senior assistant commissioner Mukta Dhar. – UNB
