Sakhawat Hossain Badsha, special correspondent of the daily Inqilab and Elias Hossain, special correspondent of Independent TV, were elected president and general secretary respectively of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday for the 2015 term.
Badsha bagged 366 votes while his nearest rival candidate Jamaluddin of daily Ittefaq polled 337 votes.Elias Hossain got 429 votes while his nearest competitor Rakib Hasnat Sumon of BBC secured 346 votes.
The other office-bearers include vice-president Rafiqul Islam Azad of the daily Independent (647 votes), joint secretary Ferdous Mobarak of the Daily Star (593 votes), organising secretary Riaz Chowdhury of the Daily Alokita Bangladesh (663 votes) and publicity and publication secretary Moinuddin Khan of the daily Naya Diganta (663 votes).
Out of 1303 DRU members, 1097 voters cast their votes in the election to elect their leaders for the next one year.
The voting started at 9am at the DRU’s Segunbagicha office and continued till 5:00pm without any break.
Election Commissioner and Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar announced the election results at 6.45pm. – UNB
