Bangladesh Covid-19 update: 30 die, 834 new cases in 24 hrs

Dhaka, Dec 26 – Covid-19 fatalities in Bangladesh rose to 7,428 with 30 more deaths recorded in 24 hours until Saturday morning.

The mortality rate stood at 1.46 percent, the Directorate General of Health Services said.
Besides, 834 new cases pushed the caseload to 508,099.
So far, 450,488 patients – 88.01 percent, with 1685 new ones, have recovered.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number reached the 5,00000-mark on December 20.
The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 7,000 on December 12.
Until now, 3,159,260 tests have been carried out, including 9,912 new ones. So far, 16.08 percent of the tests turned out to be positive.
Bangladesh is seeing 2,983.44 infections, 2,646.16 recoveries and 43.62 deaths per million, the DGHS said.
The government has been warning of the second wave of Covid-19 in winter and urging people to properly follow health safety measures. It has adopted a ‘no mask, no service’ policy.
On Monday, the government announced that the country would get Covid-19 vaccines for some 45 million people by May-June next year.
“We’ll get 30 million doses for 15 million people at the end of January or early February next year. Sixty million more doses for 30 million people will arrive by May-June,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told the media.
Covid-19 Global Situation
Over 79.8 million people have been infected globally with coronavirus while the deaths have surged to 1.7 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The total caseload reached 79,802, 494 while the death 1,749,995 as of Saturday.
The death toll in the US stood at 330,244 as of Saturday morning with 18,756,230 people have infected with the virus, according to the data.
Brazil’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 190,488 on Friday after 482 more patients died from the virus in the previous 24 hours.
Tests detected 22,967 more infections, raising the nationwide tally to 7,448,560, said the Ministry of Health.
Brazil has a COVID-19 mortality rate of 91 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, and its case rate stands at 3,544 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Besides, India’s death toll reached 147,092 while the total caseload reached 10,146,845 on Saturday. – Agencies
