Bangladesh going ahead in ICT sector: speakers

Speakers at a discussion said the Bangladesh is going ahead in the sector of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and unequivocally called for upholding the trend for furthermore advancement in the promising field.They also expected that the young generation will take the nation one-step forward through improving the technological area and all of us should create safe space for them in this regard.They were addressing the inaugural session of a two-day ‘Robot Tour and Programming Contest held at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) here yesterday.Electrical and Electronics Department of the university organized the competition in association with Embassy of United States and IEEE Students Branch aims at taking the technological advancement one-step forward.Around 82 teams from 25 prominent universities including the host RUET are taking part in the contest. More than 55 teams are taking part at the national level robotics competition for the first time while around 27 teams taking part in the programming contest.Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, and RUET Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Rafiqul Alam Beg addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively and Prof Dr Shahid Uazzaman, Dean of Electrical and Electronics Faculty, in the chair.Prof Dr NHM Kamruzzaman, Prof Dr SM Abdur Razzaque and Prof Dr Abdul Gaffar Khan also spoke.The speakers said wide-ranging expansion of modern information and communication technology is very important to make the nation happy, prosperous, educated and free from poverty and hunger.Concerted efforts as well as approach of all government and non-government organisations and others concerned has become an urgent need to attain the cherished goal of large-scale expansion of digital system.”Digital technology is the only driving force to establish a justice-based and knowledge-based society to ensure equal distribution of scopes and resources for the people,” said lawmaker Fazley Hossain Badsha.
He said the digitisation process has already created scope of employment and income generation in various ways including outsourcing, selling products through e-shop and offering different services at the Union Information Service Centres (UISCs).He also said that the process, in near future, would also help develop a knowledge-based society and good governance.In different categories of the contest, the winners will be given prizes valued at Taka 1.45 lakh.In addition to the contest, workshops and seminars on how to develop career are being held with participation of around 500 professionals, teachers and students. –BS, Rajshahi
