Dhaka – The BNP yesterday reiterated its call to take diplomatic efforts involving the international community to force Myanmar to stop persecution on Rohingyas.
“We don’t say we need to help Rohingya people to fight against Myanmar authorities. But diplomatic pressure to be put together with the global community so that they can peacefully stay in their own country,” said BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan while speaking at a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club.He said providing a temporary shelter to Rohingyas is not a solution but they need peaceful and safe existence in their own country.
Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal, affront organization of the BNP, organized the rally in protest against the genocide and repression on Rohingyas by the Myanmar government which is ruthless military behind the scene.
The BNP leader also reiterated the party call to give fleeing Rohingyas temporary shelter to a specific place on humanitarian ground.
”They (Rohingyas) are entering Bangladesh for shelter crossing the Nafe River to save their lives but sending them back would be contrary to push them to the jaws of certain death,” he said.
In this context, he alleged that boats carrying Rohingyas are being sent back. They are drowning in the river and getting killed near the border on their return to their country which cannot be acceptable,” he added.
Nazrul recalled that nearly one crore people took shelter to neighbouring India during the war of liberation to save them from the persecution by the Pakistani occupation forces but it is regretful that Bangladesh is not standing beside the oppressed people of it’s a neighbouring country.
He also criticised the rights bodies for not to raise their voice over the Rohingya issue. “They (organizations) remain silent as the government doesn’t take a position in favour of Rohingyas,” he said. – Staff Reporter
