Bangladesh Open: Siddikur shots one-over-par in 1st round

Dhaka – Country’s trailblazing golfer Siddiukr Rahman started his campaign in the $3 lakh AB Bank Bangladesh Open, carding one-over-par 72 on the opening day at home ground Kurmitola Golf Club course on Wednesday.Rattanon Wannasrichan of Thailand carded six-under-par 65 after the weather-disrupted opening day to take the charge while Siddiukr seven shots behind the leader trading three birdies against four dismal bogies in the 6642-yard course to share the 58th spot.
The 22-year-old baby-faced Rattanon, who enjoyed a top-five result in the last edition, got off to a great start as a hot putter after firing seven birdies against a bogey.
Indian golfer Dharma has just one shot behind the leader to follow with five-under-par 66, traded six birdies against one bogey on the day.
Indian stalwart M Dharma and Tour rookie Jack Harrison of England posted identical five-under-par 66 to share second place while Asian Development Tour (ADT) graduate John Catlin of the United States settled two shots off the pace in fourth following a 67.
Among the local golfers, Delwar Hossain carded one-under-par 70, Badal Hossain and Ismail carded identical even-par 71 played a bit better on the day.
The day’s play was suspended at 12.17pm due to lightning threats before resuming four hours later. All 72 players in the afternoon session will return to complete their opening rounds at 6.20am on Thursday with the second round slated to start at approximately 8.00am.UNB
