Bangladesh reports 549 new coronavirus cases, 3 more deaths

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh rose to 6,462 on Tuesday after the health authorities reported a record number of 549 new cases and three fatalities.

“In the last 24 hours, 549 people were diagnosed with coronavirus in the country,” said Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana in the daily health bulletin broadcast.

During the period, three people died from coronavirus, taking the total deaths to 155.In the last 24 hours, several coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 4,332 samples, she added.

“All the deceased were male aged above 60, and all of them were from Dhaka,” DR Nasima said adding eight more hospitalised patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Across the country, 111 more people were taken to isolation during the same period. “In the last 24 hours, 2,392 people were put under home and institutional quarantine while 3,231 released from quarantine,” Dr Nasima added.

Currently, there are 9,738 isolation beds in hospitals across the country, she said.“Of these, 3,944 are in Dhaka city and 5,994 are outside Dhaka. At present, there are 341 ICU beds for COVID-19 treatment, and we also have 102 dialysis units ready,” DR Nasima added.
