Bangladesh should be the next Asian Tiger: Mozena

Appreciating the role of US Department of State exchange programmes alumni US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan, Mozena on Saturday said the alumni have a leading role to play in building Sonar Bangla.“You’re building a new Bangladesh, the middle-income Bangladesh where all will have safe and secure life with good health and quality education services. And you’ve a leading role to play in building Sonar Bangla,” the US envoy said.
He made the remark while addressing the US Department of State Exchange Alumni General Assembly at Carnival Hall of Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the afternoon.
The American Center of the US Embassy, Dhaka hosted the event where over a hundred of alumni, including teachers, doctors, professionals, journalists and businesspeople, were present.
Mozeza said the alumni are building a number of strong and great bridges between Bangladesh and the USA for better understanding. “You laid the foundation of these great bridges. Each bridge is different and unique in terms of size and shape. These bridges are two-way bridges.”
The US envoy also said Bangladesh should be the next Asian Tiger and the alumni will play the role to make that happen.
He termed the alumni as most, powerful, dynamic and extraordinary group of over 2000 alumni, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus and Dr Humayun Ahmed under 20 programmes. “Sheikh Mujib visited the USA in 1952 as international visitor.”
Later, the US ambassador handed over awards to a number of people for their significant role in various areas, including promoting English language in Madrasah, joining Savar rescue operation and playing role as volunteers.
The awardees are Muhammad Ferdous, Badrunnesa, Shamir Shehab, Kazi Nasrin Siddiqa, Mustahsir Islam, Korvi Rakshand and Tanbir Sidiqui.
