Bangladesh-Sri Lanka first three-day match ends in draw

Dhaka — The first three-day match between touring Bangladesh A team and Sri Lankan A team ended in a draw on the final day at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota on Tuesday. Replying to Bangladesh’s first innings total of 360 runs, the second string team of hosts resumed the first innings with overnight total 204 for 2 in 55 overs. They were all out for 450 in 121.1 overs.

Ramesh Mendis, who was batting on 79 runs, completed a century contributing a polished 169 runs off 282 balls, featuring 19 boundaries. Captain Priyanjan (5) scored 56-ball 37 runs hitting six fours while middle-order PARP Perera made 75-ball 61 runs with nine hits to the fence, apart from Sangeeth Cooray’s 104 runs scored on Monday.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the most successful Bangladeshi bowler grabbing five wickets for 250 runs while Mohammad Mithun took two for 34 runs.

Trailing by 90 runs, Bangladesh A team opened the second innings Tuesday afternoon and scored one run without any loss in one over when bails were drawn for the final day (Tuesday).

Earlier on Sunday, Bangladesh A team won the toss and batted first to post 360 runs in 120.1 overs, featuring a good contribution from Jahurul Islam (90), Shadman Islam (53), Mohammad Mithun (92) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (57).

Ramesh Mendis and Ashitha Fernando of Sri Lanka bagged three wickets each while Vishwa Fernando and Ashan Priyanjan took one wicket each.

In the ongoing tour, Bangladesh A will play two three-day and three one-day matches against Sri Lanka.The second three-day match will begin on October 4 while the one-day matches will be played on October 9, 10 and 12.UNB
