Dhaka – A nine-member Bangladesh archery team will leave for the Netherlands to compete in the World Archery Championship, a OG QT World Ranking Event.
It is scheduled to take place at s-Hertogenbosch in Netherlands from June 9 to 16.
The competition will be considered as the primary qualification tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Six archers and three officials will represent Bangladesh in their 4th consecutive World Cup Archery after Italy (2011), Turkey (2013) and Denmark (2015).
Renowned archers Roman Shana, Md Tamimul Islam, Md Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Beauty Roy will compete in men’s and women’s recurve singles, team and mixed team events. Asim Kumar Das and Susmita Bonik will take part in men’s and women’s compound singles and mixed team events.
Bangladesh Head Coach Martin Frederick told reporters in Dhaka on Thursday that they were aiming to be among the top eight teams who will qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic.
Bangladesh team will return home on June 18.
Around 1,610 archers from 92 countries will compete in recurve and compound divisions at the 50th edition of World Archery Championships, a biennial event.
Men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, and mixed team were included in the recurve division while men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed team were included in the compound division in ranking and elimination rounds.
Earlier, Bangladesh took part in stage 2 of Archery World Cup 2019 held in Shanghai on May 6-10.
Bangladesh had a chance to grab the first medal in their second appearance in the World Cup Archery but they managed the fourth slot after conceding a 2-6 sets defeat to South Korea by 2-6 sets in men’s recurve team event.UNB
