Bangladesh U19 becomes group champion

Bangladesh bowled Namibia out for 65 and bagged an easy eight-wicket victory in ICC U19 World Cup on Tuesday as the hosts finished the Group A as winners.Winning the toss at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz opted to field first and his bowlers did not take much time to vindicate his decision.None of the Bangladesh bowlers took more than two wickets, yet the hosts bundled tournament’s surprise package Namibia out for the lowest total in the torunament history.Only two of the Namibia batsmen could manage double figures, with Niko Davin making 19 and Lohan Louwrens managing 17.Miraz, Saleh Ahmed Shawon and Ariful Islam bagged two wickets each while Mohammad Saifuddin and Saeed Sarkar grabbed one apiece to destroy the Namibia batting.

Chasing 66, Bangladesh lost Pinak Ghosh before any run was scored and then Saif Hassan on 13, but Joyraz Sheik (34) and the ever-dependable Nazmul Hossain Shanto (14) steered the hosts to victory.Fritz Coetzee took both the wickets of Pinak and Saif.It was a match of personal record for Miraz as the Bangladesh captain touched Pakistani Imad Wasim’s record of highest wickets (73) in youth ODI with his first scalp and then surpassed him with his second on the day. With Nazmul also making the record of scoring highest runs in youth ODI his own in the previous match, the tournament has been dreamlike for the young Tigers so far.
