Bar Council Vice chair Kh Mahbub, Milon remanded; Selima quizzing at jail gate

A court of Dhaka on Wednesday granted a two-day remand to quiz Bangladesh Bar Council Vice-Chairman Khandker Mahbub Hossain and BNP Organising Secretary  Fazlul Haq Milon in a case against them on charges of crude bomb explosions in front of Deputy Police Commissioner’s office in Dhaka.
However, the court rejected the remand plea of police to interrogate BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman in the same case. On the contrary, the court directed the police to question her at the jail gate within five days.Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Aminul Haque passed the order after police produced them to his court seeking a seven-day remand each for the three leaders.
Opposition BNP leaders Selima Rahman, Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Fazlul Haq Milon were shown arrested in the case.
On January 4, some miscreants hurled several crude bombs in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division, Maruf Hossain. Ten to 12 bombs were blasted in the incident.
Later, police filed the case with Ramna Police Station in this connection the following day.
Plainclothes police of Metropolitan Police Detective Branch arrested BNP Chairperson’s adviser Advocate Khandker Mahbub after he attended a discussion meeting at the National Press Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Besides, BNP leader Fazlul Haq Milon was arrested from BNP leader Joynul Abdin Farroque’s business office at Baridhara Tuesday noon. BNP MP Nazimuddin Ahmed was arrested with him but released during the night.
Detective Branch personnel arrested BNP leader Selima Rahman Tuesday evening after she declared the extension of the 48-hour hartal program of 18-Party Alliance by 12 hours at her Gulshan residence.
The three BNP leaders are being blamed for provoking the bomb attack in front of Deputy Police Commissioner’s house.
Earlier, on January 4, several bombs were hurled at the Police Commissioner’s office the day before polling and 18-party’s blockade enforced against the election. – Court Correspondent
