Barakat, Jamaluddin elected President, GS of BEA

Dr Abul Barakat of Dhaka University and Dr. Jamaluddin Ahmed FCA, member of the board of directors of Bangladesh Bank, have been elected president and general secretary respectively of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) for the 2018-2019 term.Md. Mostafizur Rahman Sarder has been re-elected treasurer of the 29-member executive committee of BEA.
Dr. Barkat, a freedom fighter, and Dr. Jamaluddin Ahmed, a Chartered Accountant and the fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) since 1990, led a panel titled ‘Economics for the People’ in the election and won 28 posts out of a total 29 posts.
The election held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Dhaka during the 20th biennial conference concluded on Saturday.
The voting started in a festive mood at 9:00am and ended at 4:30pm. A total of 35 candidates contested in the election.
AZM Saleh, Professor Hannana Begum, Dr. Mohammad Abul Hossain, AFM Shariful Islam and Md. Abdul Hanan have been elected vice-president.
Dr. Md. Liakat Hossain Moral and Badrul Munir have been elected Joint Secretary and Mozamel Hoque, Sahanara Begum, Meherunnesa, Noshad Mostofa and Sk. Ali Ahmed have been elected Assistant Secretary.
Elected executive committee members are Professor Dr. M. Moazzem Hossain Khan, Dr. Mohammad Mamon, Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya, SM Rashidul Islam, Syed Asraul Haque, Syeda Nazma Parvin Papri, Md. Habibul Islam, Md. Jahangir Alam, Monsur M Y Chowdhury, Partha Sarathee Ghosh, Professor Subhash Kumar Sengupta and Nesar Ahmed, reports BSS.
