Batting collapse leaves Bangladesh stutter against Sri Lanka

Dhaka – In their pursuit of 315 for victory, Bangladesh lost four wickets in quick succession which left them stutter in the first game of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Thursday. Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh’s captain in this series, fell for a duck in the very first over off Lasith Malinga. The Tigers lost three more wickets by 39 runs in 11.5 overs.  Like his opening partner, Soumya Sarkar (15) fell prey to Malinga as well. He failed to judge the line of the ball which shattered his stumps.  Mohammad Mithun (10) and Mahmudullah Riyad (3) also failed to impress with the bat.  Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman came in to repair the damage in the fifth wicket stand. At the end of 23rd over, they added unbeaten 83 runs off 67 deliveries, and Bangladesh were on 122 for four wickets at this stage.  Earlier, Sri Lanka posted massive 314 for eight wickets in 50 overs with the help of Kusal Perera’s fifth ODI century.  For Bangladesh, Shafiul Islam bagged three wickets and Mustafizur Rahman took two.UNB
