BCB picks Nayeem in 14-man squad for 1st Test against Sari Lanka 

Dhaka – Picking up Under19 side off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday announced a 14-man Test squad for the first match of the two-match series against Sri Lanka.Nayee, the 17-year old spinner and a boy from Chittagong, is now playing in the ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand. His inclusion came as a big surprise as he played only four first-class matches.BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that Nayeem will be returning from New Zealand to join the Test squad.”He is a good option. He is coming back from New Zealand since we lost to India today (Friday). Nayeem is a talented bowler and since we wanted an additional offs-pinner we have picked him,” said Minhajul Abedin.Apart from Nayeem Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan is returning as captain after he was rested for the South Africa Tests, while Mosaddek Hossain and Kamrul Islam have got recall against Sri Lanka for the 1st Test, which starting at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on January 31.However, Mosaddek was recovering from an eye problem but he scored a century in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) first-class competition last week.Subashis Roy, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Shafiul Islam and Taskin Ahmed have been dropped from the Tigers’ previous Test squad that played in a two-match overseas against South Africa in September-October in 2017.Sabbir has been dropped due to his poor batting in the ODIs and was guilty of throwing his wickets away in the Tests in South Africa.Squad for first Test: Shakib Al Hasan (capt), Mahmudullah Riyad (vice-capt), Tamim Iqbal, Liton Kumar Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Kamrul Islam, Mehidy Hassan, Rubel Hossain and Nayeem Hasan.UNB news agency
