BCL activists assault DUJA president, 2 DU students

DU Journalists’ Association president and two DU students were assaulted and beaten up reportedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of Dhaka University’s Mohsin hall unit as they protested the assault of a female student of the university on Monday evening.
The injured were identified as DU Correspondent of the daily Samakal and also DUJA president Masum Billah, a first year student Mehedi Hasan and 4th year student Masusdur Rahman. All of them were DU Mass communication and journalism department students.They were taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later were shifted to DU Medical Center.
Police arrested two BCL activists for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Baset of DU history department and Shakirul Islam of Management department both of them BCL activists of DU Mohshin hall unit.
Witnesses said that the BCL activists of the hall unit assaulted a female student at TSC during celebration of victory of Bangladesh against England in ICC Cricket world cup.
DUJA president along with some of general students protested the assault. At one stage of altercation, BCL activists beat up some general students when DUJA president Masum and two MCJ students were injured.
When contacted DU proctor Professor M Amzad Ali told journalists that punitive action would be taken against the culprits involved in the incident.
BCL general secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam also assured journalist to take action against the involved BCL activists. – News Desk
