BCL: Central Zone beat South, East settle for draw with North

Dhaka- Walton Central Zone upset Prime Bank South Zone by beating them by 77 runs on the 4th and final day of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Saturday.Replying to Walton Central Zone’s 282 and 264 runs in two innings, Prime Bank South Zone, having 281 runs in the first innings, opened the 2nd innings Saturday morning with an overnight score 38 for 2 and were all out for 188 runs in 49.5 overs to suffer 77 runs defeat.

South Zone national colored opener Shahriar Nafees, who was in batting with overnight 11 runs, scored the innings highest 54 runs off 74 balls, hitting five fours.

Another overnight batsman Tushar Imran (10) contributed 68-ball 40 runs, also with six fours, while national colored Raquibul Hasan made 35 runs off 52 balls, featuring five fours and Mahedi Hasan made 28 runs off 52-ball, with four fours.

A 32-year-old right arm off break bowler from Mymensingh Shuvagoto Hom made the major damage in South Zone 2nd innings grabbing five wickets for 53 runs while 22-year national colored left arm medium pacer Abu Hider Rony picked up four wickets for 44 runs to restrict their opponent for 188 runs.

Two down batsman Abdul Mazid, who scored 141 runs in the first innings for Central Zone earlier, was adjudged man of the match.

The day’s other league match between BCB North Zone and Islami Bank East Zone ended in a draw on the 4th and final day (Saturday) at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Replying to BCB North Zone’s huge first innings total of 445 runs featuring two centuries by Naeem Islam (137) and Jahurul Islam (104), Islami Bank East Zone resumed the first innings with overnight score of 380 for 7 and were all out for 443 runs in 125.3 overs.

Middle order batsman Yasir Ali hammered 129-ball 94 runs hitting 13 fours and one six and lower order Mohammad Saifuddin made 103-ball 64 runs with the help of eight fours and two sixes, while captain cum night watch batsman Farhad Reza (55) contributed 132-ball 85 runs with the help of 10 fours and three sixes and another overnight cum lower order batsman Enamul Haque Junior (25) added 51 runs off 116 balls with seven hits to the fence.

Ebadat Hossain and Sunzamul Islam grabbed three wickets each conceding 87 and 112 runs respectively while all-rounder Ziaur Rahman claimed two wickets for 56 runs.
In reply, BCB North Zone opened the 2nd innings Saturday morning and scored 270 runs for 4 in 45.3 overs featuring a century by Farhad Hossain when bails were drawn for 4th and final day to settle for a draw.

One down Farhad Hossain hammered a century of unbeaten 103 runs off 128 deliveries hitting 12 fours and one six while national coloured all-rounder Sabbir Rahman made half-century scoring 45-ball 56 runs with five hits across the rope and three over the rope and opener Junaid Siddique made run-a-ball 51 including six boundaries.

Middle order Naeem Islam, who scored 137 runs in the first innings, contributed 38-ball 29 runs in the 2nd innings to be adjudged man of the match.Abu Jayed took two wickets for 72 runs while Hasan Mahmud captured one for 59 runs.UNB
