Prime Minister’s son and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Saturday lamented that the positive activities of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) do not receive media coverage.
“If Chhatra League does anything (wrong), the media covers it extensively as if newspapers can’t run without sensational news. However, the good deeds of Chhatra League do not hit the headlines,” he said.Joy was answering questions from the audience at the launching ceremony of a new organisation, Young Bangla, at Hotel Radisson Blu Water Garden in the capital.
The new organisation will work to bring all the youth organisations under a new platform to implement the government’s Vision-2021.
Mentioning some of the good works of the ruling Awami League’s student wing, Joy said during any national disaster in the country, the BCL leaders and activists work hard voluntarily in distributing relief materials among the distressed people. “They donated blood to the Savar Rana Plaza collapse victims. But it does not get any place in newspapers,” he said.
Asked whether the student politics gets polluted, the PM’s adviser said, “When a party comes to power, many join it to gain advantages. They’re doing misdeeds using the name of Chhatra League.”
He, however, said they would not tolerate any corruption and terrorism. “Many don’t know that some 650 BCL men have been sent to jail in the last five years.”
Describing the initiatives of the government, Joy said, “Our main aim is to engage the youth in the development activities. We’ve made the policy not only by sitting at the secretariat but also by roaming across the country in search of ideas so that we can help develop policy.”
He said the Awami League dreams of not the present but also the future prospect. Mentioning that the small and medium enterprises are the base of the US economy, Joy said, “We also want to do so.” – UNB
