Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said over 12 crore people, out of the country’s 16 crore population, are mobile phone subscribers while 4.5 crore use the Internet.
He said this while responding to a supplementary question during the question-session in Parliament.The minister who was also assigned to look after issues related to the Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry in Parliament, said people’s attention is now to mobile phone instead of T&T land phone.
Quader said though the land phone service remains good in the city areas the quality of services is not satisfactory at the rural level. “We’re aware of it and necessary steps will be taken to improve the services in rural areas.”
Responding to a scripted question from Didarul Alam (Ctg-4), he said Grameenphone Bangladesh Limited is on top in terms of subscribers having some 5,15,98,560 subscribers.
Robi Axiata Limited is holding the third position with 2,64,14,197 subscribers while Banglalink second position with 3,15,15,065 subscribers. Airtel has 79,43,651 subscribers.
Citycell has only 12,63,171 subscribers while Teletalk Bangladesh Limited has also poor subscribers-base with 39,22,054 subscribers – UNB
