BD to demolish 255 vulnerable buildings in capital Dhaka

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday told Parliament that steps are being taken to demolish 255 vulnerable buildings in the capital.

“Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) has identified 321 risky buildings in the city since 2010. Of the buildings, 255 are still there,” he said while replying to a starred question from treasury bench MP M Abdul Latif (Chattogram-11).

Of the remaining buildings, the minister said, the owners reconstructed 28 buildings, while demolished 38 buildings.“Steps are being taken to demolish or remove the existing 255 risky buildings through discussions with the owners,” he told the House.

In reply to another starred question from Awami League MP Didarul Alam (Chattogram-4), the minister said the government has a plan to construct a flyover from the city’s Shantinagar point to Mawa Road (Jhilmil) under the Public Private Partnership (PPP).In 2013, the relevant ministerial committee approved in principle the implementation of the project under PPP system. The project is supposed to be completed by June 2022.
