Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the arch-rival of the ruling Awami
League, yesterday accused the government of turning Bangladesh into a
state of enforced disappearances.
“Numerous leaders and activists of BNP and opposition have been victims
joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press conference at party’s central office, he mentioned
that though some of the ill-fated persons luckily returned to their
family members who were weeping for their near and dear ones and
questioned as to where they would go for justice.
He called upon the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina to stop the enforced
disapreances immediately.
The BNP leader mentioned that former diplomat Maruf Zaman has returned to him family members but around 100 people including BNP leaders- Ilias Ali, Chowdhury Alam, Saiful Alam Hero, Humayun Kabir Parvej,
Sazedul Islam, Mahbub Hasan, Majharul Islam, Adnan Chowdhury and
Parvej Hossain are still remained missing. Besides, he said,
Abdullahil Aman Azmi, Barrister Ahmed Bin Kashim (Arman) are also
remaining missing.
He said parents, children and family members of the victims of the
enforced disappearances are weeping for those were disappeared.
Rizvi also accused the government of closing different media including
Islamic TV, Dignta TV, Peace TV and Amar Desh in a bid to establish
one-party rule in the country.
About low turnout in the Upazila Parishad polls that boycotted by the
BNP, he said the polling centres are voter less as they are not
interested to cast their votes. He said the BNP has no interest about
this election.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Nazmul Haque Nannu and
ABM Mosharraf Hossain, among others, were present, at the press
