Awami League presidium member and former Home Minister Mohammad Nasim today alleged that failing to launch a movement, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has now been hatching conspiracy to go to power through illegal way.
“BNP has failed in the movement. Khaleda Zia has also failed to follow the people. For this reason, BNP has now been hatching conspiracy to go to power through illegal way,” he said adding that losing trust upon the people, the main opposition has been urging the army, police and BGB to protect country’s democracy.
Nasim, also spokesman of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Bangladesh Load and Unload Workers’ Federation organised the discussion on “The government’s success in alleviating poverty, expectations of the poor and working people of the state” at Awami League (AL) central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
President of the Federation SM Omar Faruque presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Dhaka City AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), vice- president Mukul Chowdhury, publicity secretary Abdul Huq Sabuj and office secretary Shahidul Islam Milon.
Nasim said killing of people has been taking place in Egypt in the name of protecting democracy and Khaleda Zia wants to create a similar situation in the country and for this, she has been urging the army, the police and the BGB.
He said the army, the police and the BGB have been entrusted with the specific responsibilities and the people of the country will protect democracy.
The 14-party spokesman said, “After hearing the threats of BNP leaders, it can be presumed that there will be a tsunami or earthquake in the country on October 24. In reality, nothing will happen. Dhaka City Awami League along with the people will undo Khaleda Zia, if BNP tries to create anarchy.”
“We have experienced enough of Begum Zia’s ultimatums over the past five years. So, I want to say nothing unusual will happen ,” Nasim added.
The senior AL leader said, “The upcoming national poll will be held in accordance with the constitution. There will be a 16- member cabinet under the leadership of the Prime Minister, which will run the government. The Election Commission will conduct the election”.
Pointing at Begum Khaleda Zia, Nasim said, “Who are you? Why people of the country will listen to you? We secured 270 seats and you won 30 seats in the parliament. You are a minority in the House. Don’t upset your brain sounding warning of movement for no cause. People will reject your threat for movement.”
