BGB, BSF guard smuggling, trafficking on Satkhira border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday decided to strictly check smuggling and human trafficking through Satkhira frontiers. The decision was taken at a commander-level flag meeting between the border guards of the two countries at Ghojadanga opposite to Bhomra frontier.
Sources said the issues of barbed wire fencing by BSF inside international no-man’s land as well as preventing smuggling and human trafficking came up for discussion at the meeting.
BSF tried to erect fence of barbed wire inside the no-man’s land at Panitor along Debhata frontier in Satkhira a few days ago. The move was stopped in the face of protest from the BGB.
During hour-long meeting, the both sides decided to prevent all kinds of smugglings as well as trafficking of women and children trough the frontiers.
Jessore Region Commander Lt Col Hasan Ahmed led a 10-member BGB delegation while his counterpart of BSF 47 Battalion Commandant JS Babu led the Indian team to the flag meeting.
