Biman Bangladesh Airlines will launch operations to China, Vietnam and New York in the US soon, Chairman of the airline’s Board of Directors Jamal Uddin Ahmed said on Friday.
“We are set to start flight operations to Vietnam and China. Planes of our airline will fly to New York too,” Ahmed said at the installation ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of Bangladesh Biman Officers’ Association at the city’s Hotel Ruposhi Bangla.
The retired Air Force chief also said aircraft of the flag carrier would be able to fly to New York as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) recently lifted the embargo on flight operations to the destination.
“The American Federal Aviation (AFF) will soon lift its ban too. There will be no complications over flight operations on that route after that,” he added.
Ahmed said Biman’s operations on most of the routes were incurring losses. “It’s not possible for Biman to make profit unless the flight operation losses (on the routes) end.”
He pointed out that Biman had a few number of aircraft and a small network. “We will continue to incur losses if we fail to do route planning properly.” he added.
