Biogas being supplied to Poura dwellers

Organizers at a function here on Tuesday said bio-gas produced from domestic wastes is being supplied to 30 households in Segunbagicha area of Gaibandha Municipality for cooking purpose to have pollution free environment.
“Besides compost, an organic fertilizer, is also being prepared from the domestic rubbishes in a bid to use in arable land to boost production of agri crops and to regain the lost fertility of the soil,” they said.It was disclosed at a view exchange meeting with the journalists in the project office of Shegunbagicha under the municipality to brief the media men about overall activities of the project.Sinnomul Mohila Samity (SMS) and Practical Action Bangladesh jointly arranged the function under the project of strengthening the innovative initiatives (Sanimart, Waste to Bio Gas) promoted under the
urban component of SHEWAB and Waste to Compost in Gaibandha Town funded by Unicef and UKAID.Apart from this, hygienic sanitary napkins are being produced for the adolescents and women. Besides, entrepreneurs are being created from the poor for involving themselves in income generating activities to change their socio-economic condition, said an official.With Morshedur Rahman Khan, executive director of SMS, in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by assistant engineer of the project Murshidul Alam Ripon, project officer Julia Akter and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman. -BSS, Gaibandha
