A mobile court in a drive seized 10-maund of jatka (hilsa fry) from Burirghat area under Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The court also sentenced a jatka trader to one-year imprisonment and realised Taka 10,000 as fine from two traders for selling the jatka.According to sources concerned, the government has imposed eight months ban on catching, transporting and selling of ‘Jatka’ across the country that came into effect from November 1, 2013.To make the ban successful, the authorities concerned are monitoring the overall situation and taking legal actions against the violators, said Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Asaduzzaman. -BSS, Shariatpur
