Birdem’s ICU locked down after 4 test Covid-19 positive

Dhaka:23-The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Birdem General Hospital has been put under lockdown after 3 patients tested positive for Covid-19.
The lockdown was imposed on Tuesday.This happened after family members of one of the patients having diabetes hid the matter of coming into contact with a returnee from Italy and also the fact that the patient was having breathing problem.
On April 14, the 68-year-old patient was admitted at the hospital with low sugar-level.
A doctor of the hospital said before getting admitted into Birdem, the affected patient’s family on April 8, took him to BSMMU for Covid-19 test, but he tested negative.
The patient also affected 3 others who were already admitted at the Birdem ICU, the hospital Deputy Director Dr Najimul Islam said.
Altogether four out of five patients at the ICU tested Covid-19 positive while the other tested negative.
They were sent to Covid-19 dedicated hospital, Najimul also said.
All the doctors and nurse at the ICU were sent for home-quarantine.
The hospital authority also decided not to admit any patient with coronavirus symptoms.
Many doctors at the hospital complained that they were not provided with PPEs and the masks given to them were of low quality and did not meet the N95 requirement.
