BNP accuses govt of abducting, killing opposition activists

The BNP on Saturday alleged that leaders and activists of the 18-Party alliance were being abducted or ‘extra-judicially’ killed.
In a statement, BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The government is abducting, killing and torturing our leaders and activists to make permanent its one-party rule in the country.”He said the government was using the joint forces to extra-judicially kill leaders and activists of the BNP and its allies across the country everyday.
He said such repression would not deter them.
Fakhrul also condemned the death of Golam Rabbani, Organising Secretary of Laxmichap Union unit of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.
The BNP spokesperson alleged that joint forces had arrested Rabbani some days ago from Panchagarh. “But police recovered his body from Sadar Upazila’s Palashbarhi Union today (Saturday). The law enforcers will not be able to avoid responsibility for this murder.”
He also claimed that several days ago law enforcers also detained two leaders of BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal from the same Union.
“By using the state power to safeguard party interests, the government is making life and properties of the people insecure. We will urge the government to immediately shun the path of torture. Otherwise consequences will not be good.” – bdnews24.com
