Bnp activists enter Naya Paltan central office after 92 days

A few activists of the main opposition Bnp entered their central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka City on Saturday evening after police withdrew their siege laid on the office since January 03 midnight. This was the second reopening of the Bnp central office after the end of police siege in little over two years.
The central office of the Bnp was put under lock and key by police way back in 2014 during the January 05 election that was boycotted by the Bnp and most other parties. Earlier in 2013 police had raided the Bnp central office and arrested many of its central leaders by breaking open the door of the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. On Saturday some party leaders and activities stood before the locked-up collapsible gate when police was withdrawn from there. Some armoured personnel carriers of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police however were parked not far from the office while a wheeled drinking water-tank of police was still in its front.
At about 7-30 pm on the day the Assistant office-secretary of Bnp Asadul Karim Shaheen, central leader of Sramik Dal Anwar Hossain and central leader of Swechhasebak Dal Aminul Islam entered the office by cutting open the locks put at the collapsible gate.
On January 03 night the joint secretary general of Bnp Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was picked up while others staying at the office were driven away and the collapsible gate put under lock and key 54 hours ahead of Bnp’s scheduled ‘Black Day’ rally there as the party was refused permission to hold meeting at Suhrawardy Uddyan or Shapla Chattar.
Police picked up Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on the plea of taking him to a hospital. Rizvi however managed to flee from the Apollo Hospital several days after the start of the transport blockade programme that was started on 06 January. He continued to announce Bnp-led 20-Party Alliance progrogrammes from an ‘undisclosed’ location before being arrested by Rab from a Baridhara house in early February.
Another Bnp joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed who took over the duty and was operating from an undisclosed Uttara house was picked up by some people reportedly identifying themselves as members of law enforcing agencies on March 10 night, but remained untraced ever since. How the third joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu has been doing the same duty from an undisclosed location. – News Desk
