BNP demands international probe of sit-in eviction

The BNP has demanded an international investigation into “mass killing” in evicting the activists of Hifazat-e Islam in the city’s Motijheel on Sunday night. The party’s top policymaking National Standing Committee came up with the demand in a statement on Tuesday.
The call came ahead of the BNP-led 18-Party alliance’s countrywide dawn-to-dusk shutdown for two days to protest ‘killing of unarmed Alems’ of Hifazat-e Islam by the law enforcers.
The largest opposition party in Parliament also demanded the government’s resignation for the ‘mass killing’.
The statement referred to the constitutional right of any organisation to hold rally. “The fascist government snatched their (Hifazat men) rights, conducted massacre at the Shapla Chattar on May 5 and injured scores of people.”
“We’re demanding a neutral and international investigation into this mass killing. The Awami League government has no right to stay in power following the incident.”
