BNP fears large scale rigging in Monday UZ polls

BNP says it anticipates large scale rigging by the ruling Awami League during the fifth phase of the Upazila Council elections.
BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed held a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Saturday, a day before 73 Upazilas go to vote.
“I have news that ruling party leaders in almost all these Upazilas are threatening opposition supporters to ensure their agents don’t go to the voting centres,” he said.“We fear they may attack polling centres and rig the polls for chairman and vice chairman, like they have done before.”
Opposition activists in Feni’s Chagalnaiya, Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur, Noakhali’s Subornachar and Hatia, Mymensingh’s Goforgaon, Lakshmipur Sadar and Ramganj, Tangail’s Gopalpur and Narayanganj’s Sonargaon are all facing arrests and other harassments, claimed the BNP leader.
Creating chaos, supporting terror have always been attributes of the Awami League, he said.
Salahuddin reiterated that the Election Commission should resign as it was “subservient to the government.” – bdnews24.com
