Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday said BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami have become desperate to return to power by unleashing militancy in the name of religion. “BNP-Jamaat wants to come to power again through militancy in Pakistani-style by misguiding people in the name of religion.
So, they’re involved in conspiracy. All will have to remain vigilant to crush their conspiracy,” she said. She said this while addressing a discussion and blood donation programme organised by Bangladesh Krishak League marking the National Mourning Day at the National Press Club. Criticising the role of Hefajat-e-Islam, the Foreign Minister alleged that BNP-Jamaat is trying to grab power riding the shoulder of Hefajat.
Mentioning the government’s ‘good performance’, Dipu Moni, also the joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said, “Bangladesh is now being acclaimed for its role across the world. But when BNP-Jamaat was in power, the country had been portrayed with a negative image.”
Addressing the discussion, State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam urged Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus not to talk about caretaker government system. “Dr Yunus had wanted to do politics during the 1/11 political changeover, but he was driven out from the race. He is now aspiring to enter politics by bringing another 1/11-like situation. He’ll be dumped from the race again,” Quamrul added.
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan, Krishak League general secretary Shamsul Haque Reza, among others, spoke at the programme held with Krishak League President Motaher Hossain Molla in the chair. -UNB
