BNP leader: Indian PM’s Dhaka visit should be reconsidered

Dhaka, March 05 – A senior BNP leader yesterday observed that the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Dhaka should be reconsidered in view of the recent communal disturbances in New Delhi.BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain made these comments while speaking at the National Council of Islami Oikyajote, an ally of BNP led 20-party alliance.
“We welcome the goodwill visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Dhaka and Bangladesh’s Prime Minister to New Delhi that is normal diplomatic practice…But the Indian premier is coming to Dhaka when Muslims are being killed, mosques are set to fire and Muslim devotees are opposing his visit,” he mentioned.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Dhaka on March 17 to attend Bangabandhus’s birth centenary programme on the day at the invitation of the Bangladesh government.
Referring to the recent incident in Pirojpur District, Khandaker Mosharraf alleged that the courts are giving verdicts as per the directives of the government.
The IOJ council held at Jatiya Press Club with its chairman Maulana Abdur Rakib in the chair made Maulana Abdur Rakib and Maulana Abdul Karim chairman and secretary-general of the organisaion.
Meanwhile, the BNP yesterday formed three special committees to conduct the by-elections to three by-elections in Jeshore-6, Bogura-1 and Gaibandha-3 constituencies.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the committee on Wednesday night, confirmed BNP chairperson’s media wing officer Shairul Kabir.
Party organizing secretary Nazrul Islam Manju has been made chief of the committee to conduct the by-election to Jeshore-6 constituency while vice-chairman Mohammed Shajahan for Bogura-1 and organizing secretary Asadul Habib Dulu for Gaibandha-3 constituency. – Staff Reporter
